Tarun Cherukuri, Vijayawada-born social entrepreneur received global honour

Tarun Cherukuri, the founder and CEO of Indus Action, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Skoll Award for Social Innovation. The award recognizes his organisation's work in bridging the gap between India's social protection policies and the vulnerable citizens they are meant to serve.

Indus Action, based in New Delhi, focuses on ensuring citizens can access their constitutional entitlements, such as education, healthcare, and financial support.

The Skoll Foundation awarded the organization $2 million in unrestricted funding to scale its impact. The award was presented at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford, UK, on April 23, 2026.

Under Cherukuri’s leadership, Indus Action uses a tech-enabled, citizen-centric approach to help millions of Indians navigate bureaucratic obstacles to receive benefits.

Originally from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, Cherukuri’s mission is deeply personal. Growing up in a region where many children were out of school, he later attended Harvard University on multiple scholarships, which inspired his commitment to "paying it forward" by improving public systems.
